today is very strong windy day

max gust 74km/h from N

at 15kms in the South from here, 88km/h!

a cold air, arrived from east europe, has created a low pressure in the ionian see.

good rain for cold storm during last night and this morning, here 10mm but at the south and 80-100kms in the north, more and less 20mm

Very windy down there in Italy Franko83 - 88km/h!

The latest pressure charts illustrate just how tight the isobars are down in Italy.

Only just noticed this thread but what a fasinating read with some wonderful photos.

My father was born in Palermo, Sicily and have visited this wonderful island many years ago.

I shall follow this thread with interest and I would like to say thanks to Franko for posting some wonderful pics.

today is sunny and windy too

from 19th and 21th current month, had very wet day: relative humidity always over 80%, fog every night! in Bari city (200 km NW) the 21th was a foggy day, it's absolutely rare!

I was in Rome this previous week so I think I may as well comment on the weather out there.

Monday was pretty cloudy with weak showers until the late eveing period when quite a potent thunderstorm rolled through, very high rainfall rates I'd guess with fairly frequant lightning.

After that pretty much uninterupted sunshne with temps maxing out around 15-16C.

Hi, last week Rome had 3 heavy thunderstroms between Monday evening and Thuesday

these are some dates of a local station ( Davis VP)

incredible for this period, a lot of ts by pre-frontal, frontal and post-frontal systems.

last week-end very cold hair interested my zone: -12° at 850hPa but only -27° at 500hPa! the instabilty hadn't a good energy, but the Adriatic See Effect Snow created a lot of clowds and some coreografic snow

temperatures were around 1°-4° at see level, but dew point from -7° and -14°!

some videos, aren't good but in the night I can't do better.

near the see, wind blowned at 90km/H, was impossible go out from the car.

in the last days, this zone had a strong termical inversion, some min temperatures (at see level)

I can't wait to be seeing those sort of temperatures here, looking forward to Spring now. I wouldn't like the temps much higher than that though- but inevitably I will be unlucky at a few points through the Summer.

Certainly a sharp contrast to what you were reporting last month.

a clouds of 2500-3000 km, from Libya to Alpes! I think it's big WCB

very wet air, strong vorticity and CAPE! 60-70mm in undreds km in the south Italy.

heavy snow at the est mountain of the central Italy: frequently over 50cm

Today, It's overcast and windy in Catania but isn't raining yet!

Temperature is around +12°C, but at home (that is on 670 masl) temperature is around +5°C.

Is Italian Spring generally unreliable or fairly settled?

I like those temperatures in the Foehn. When we get it over here it won't get that hot so early in the season- unlikely to get over 25C in the warmest places until October.

sorry to respond delay, I've just red your question

italian spring is unreliable, in a few days we can have a cold incursion (maritime from Rodano Valley or continental from Bora ) and after very strong sub-tropical Hp, especially in the end of season. what can I say: changeble, variability...?

yesterday, great funnel cloud in Grottaglie near Taranto, 100 kms weast-north-weast from here.

this photo isn't mine

some people have seen another funnel at 4-5 kms North from here, but I haven't picture.

Infact, today I recorded +24°C (max) on 670 masl (Pedara) and Catania city has touched the 30 degrees! :o

without fohn effect, they've remeined at 20°

in Sicily some 30degrees, in my region two days ago 25-27° in some city

we've been lucky
