The month was again dominated by high pressure, and was the 4th successive November with below average rainfall. After a mild and dry start with plenty of sunshine, Atlantic depressions were more prevalent from the middle of the month. Conditions became more gloomy and wetter, particularly in the last week but rainfall ended as 63% of average, and sunshine just a little above average.

In addition, Autumn 2007 was the driest September / October / November period here since 1985.

November 2007 Report.

With a warm cell of high pressure still in control, November began dry, quiet, bright and very mild, with just a few chilly nights when the sky stayed clear. A cold front pushed down the country from the northwest on the 8th bringing a little rain here. Cooler and fresher weather followed on the 9th as high pressure built in from the west.

By the 11th under clear skies over night the temperature fell to –2.8c. Daytime temperatures stayed on the cold side too. The cold spell of weather continued with low night minimums and with slight to moderate air frosts until the 17th.

On the 18th low pressure took control and became centred over England, heavy rain set in and with falling temperatures the rain turned to sleet during the afternoon and then to moderate snow during the evening, giving a slight covering for a few hours over night. By the morning of the 19th the wind had picked up from the northeast and brought slightly milder air in from the North Sea and the snow turned back to rain. By the end of the 20th, rain and snow melt gave a total 28mm here.

The 21st to the 23rd saw the low gradually transferring east north east towards Scandinavia and with pressure rising out to the west of the UK, northerly winds brought drier but much colder weather giving a hard frost on the evening of the 23rd and on the morning of the 24th, giving a minimum of –5c, the lowest temperature of the season.

High pressure from the 25th to the 27th gave a period of very quiet anticyclone gloom with unusually calm conditions here being maintained for over 24 hours on the 26th and 27th.

Low pressure again took control from the 28th to the end of the month bringing rain and much stronger SW winds, with average temperatures.

Summary.

A quiet and very dry first half with only 6mm of rain up to the 18th. The second half was more unsettled and rather cold at times with some quite heavy rain and a period of wet snow here on the 18th giving a temporary slight covering, also one notably cold morning on the 24th with the minimum air temperature of –5.0c. Mean temperature for the month was 6.5c, slightly below the November 1971-2000 CET average.

Yes, the number 8 with a ) bracket immediately after it is what you type in text form to get that smiley :D - all the smileys have a text code too, to avoid, leave a space between them

or tip: on one forum I use the curly braces {} and avoid () altogether.

With thanks to my lovely girlfriend for helping me collate these stats :shok: .

Average max = 11.43c (highest = 17c on 1 & 2 Nov)

Average min = 4.20c (lowest = -4c on 16 Nov)

Mean = 7.81c (0.65c above the 5 year mean and 0.1c higher than 2006)

Dry days = 16

Rain days = 14

Rainfall = 94.5mm (22mm on the last day & 64mm between Nov 18-21!)*

*So 86mm of the 94.5 mm fell on just 5 days :shok:
