Yesterday, Friday 14th December

After a moderate frost, with an overnight low of –3.5c, low cloud spread in to the area around 4am lifting the temperature to just above freezing at dawn. The morning and afternoon continued cold and dull with a moderate easterly wind. After a maximum daytime temperature of 0.8c around 10am the temperature then began to fall off very slowly, so by 2:30pm it was just 0.5c. Overnight the temperature increased to reach 1.2c, the maximum for the 24 hour period.

The thick freezing fog suddenly cleared during the early hours of the morning and the temp' rose to -0.2c as the sky cleared. It was a clear and sunny start to the morning but a sheet of stratocumulus rolled in from the south east by 0930 and it's been cloudy since then. Trees etc are covered with rime and glaze, up to 25mm thick.

Clear skies and sunny here today, with temps only just above freezing at 0.2C and a light breeze from the south-east.

Should have added to my CairnGorm post that when it was +12c at the mid mountain, the RH was 22% and the Dew Point was -10c. Thus the snow pack has continued to dry and firm up giving firm packed snow with a few icy patches. Did get an email saying "you idiot the snow wont be firm it will be slush with those temps!"...
