For Christmas I got a Oregon Scientific Rain Gauge

Any advice on anyone that already owns something similar? Does it gave to be flat, it's currently nailed on top of the shed room which slants at the end, I used the little washers to lift it up but still hangs a little bit at an angle. Nailed it on with some screws to (hopefully) prevent it from blowing off.

What I'm wondering is whether it has to be dead straight.

If it's the tipping type I think they have to be level.

I guess I'll have to wait for some rain before seeing whether it's working properly.
