Cantley 2007 data

the annual summary shows 2007 ended with a mean of 10.9C, well above the average for this area which is/was 9.6C; Finningley values in brackets and are noticeably different from the past 11 years here.

my own 11 year average is at 10.9C, so quite different from the RAF Finningley values of 1943-1995 of 9.6C. The warmest was 2006 with 11.4C and the coldest was 2001 with 9.5C.

I really must get round to doing a recent mix of the Finningley and Cantley averages, 1971-2000 albeit there are about 14 months missing.

average max=15.2(13.4)

average min=7.1(5. :whistling:

hello 8 with )=smiley again, no idea why!

Notably, a dry, sunny April followed by a poor summer here in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.

Note, January and whole year figures are invalidated due to a sensor fault on my AWS.

YATTON, BRISTOL

January, February and the start of March were generally mild, windy and very unsettled. Temperatures were generally above average and rainfall too but there were cold snaps between 21st and 26th January and 4th and 10th February. The lowest temperature of the year was -6.3C on the 7th February.

March was then drier with wet intervals at times but ended very mild which then set the trend for the whole of April which was warm, sunny and dry! It rained twice.

Between May and the end of July, this was the wettest period of the year. The wettest week was the 7th-13th May with 96mm recorded. There was a brief heatwave in June resulting in a high of 28.3C on the 10th but there were also severe thunderstorms on both the 15th and 19th. July saw a never-ending pattern of rain followed showers.

August saw a massive improvement with many sunny days and very few wet ones. The highest temperature of the year was on 5th when 28.5C was recorded. It was generally warm for most of the month and dry too but a wet spell on the 14th/15th helped nudge up the rainfall totals. September continued warm and dry but more unsettled in the final week.

October was also a dry month but heavy downpours of rain at times made up for the dry spells. Autumn colours were brilliant during this month.

November started dry and quite warm for the time of year but turned colder and more unsettled with heavy rain and showers and this continued into the first half of December resulting in very high daily rainfall. A cold spell then set in with below-average temperatures again until Christmas when it did turn milder again with more rain and showers.

Warmest day on August 5th = 28.5C

Coldest day on February 7th = -1.3C

Warmest night on August 4th = 18.2C

Coldest night on February 7th = -6.3C

Wettest Day 25th June - 42.2mm

Longest Dry Spell - 31st Mar - 23rd Apr 0mm

Days of snow = 3

Days of lying snow = 1

Thunderstorms = 9

Rain total for 2007 = 1264.6mm

Another well above average year. It was the second warmest since my records began in 1984, just losing out to 2006 by 0.09C. Winter and Spring were both 2C above average and the warmest on record. The summer and Autumn were closer to average, though still above. The only month below average was July (-0.2C).

Rainfall was rather strange to say the least. Overall it was a wet year, but this masked several long dry spells. These included only 1.5mm rain between 24th March and 7th May. 0.5mm between 21st August and 18th September and 1.0mm between 10th October and 9th November. Suprisingly in such a wet year; winter, spring and Autumn were all drier than average. Summer on the other hand was an absolute washout, with a colossal 371mm of rainfall, some 267% of average. June was the worst month, seeing 207mm, including almost 100mm on the 25th, causing devastating flooding in the area. As well as being wet, June and July saw 11 days with thunder and 23 individual storms passing over.

As seen in recent years, snowfall was exceptionally poor. The only lying snow at 0900 was on 23rd January - a half covering which melted by 11am. There was a little falling snow in March, but this never managed to lay. Frosts were below average too, with only 11 compared to the long-term average of 25.

The year was also the first not to reach 25C since 1993. With the highest maximum temperature of 24.1C on 5th August the lowest since records began. The year contained a record warm January and April, beating the previous warmest months by a huge 0.7C and 1.6C!

Overall, a poor winter for snowfall and summer for heat, but some very interesting weather.
