Very wild out there. Wind observations at 7am are reporting gusts of up to 41mph at Portland and 49mph at Plymouth, so I reckon we are between the two. Rain eased off but the wind is getting stronger

Dull, mild and windy and very wet!

Min: 8c yesterday evening.

24 hour rain to 0900: 7.0mm from overnight rain at times.

Max so far: 9.7c @ 0400.

This afternoon, heavy rain and strong to gale force southerly.

Made nonsense really of the Wales weather warning that has left out my part of the world (Ceredigion) and yet covers adjacent counties to the south, west and north:

Strange Wales warning!

Currently: Dull, continuous heavy rain, windy but less mild.

Temp: 7.9c

Pressure: 993 mbar, falling slowly.

Rainfall since 0900 (past 6 hours): 16.2mm!

A further 9mm in the last 2 hours.

Thats 24mm since 1030, and 32mm since the event began 24 hours ago.

A decent fall already, even in this relatively wet location!

Current temp: 7.5c.

Wind has eased somewhat though, no longer gusting to gale force.

The main rain area now just about through.

11.5mm more since 1700.

Total since 0900: 36.6mm, so I need just a few overnight showers to beat the wettest day since moving back to this area in 2003 (37.7mm on March 5th 2007). :o

Currently: Intermittent light rain.

Temp: 6.5c.

Pressure: 989 mbar, steady.

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
