Surprised that's supposed to be a MetO comment.

Well the dear old Met O is touting the weekends flooding in other places, but no mention of 2008 as a whole:

    Wales

Well if we carry on this way, we'll be needing to build an ark, never mind worrying about records!

The Met Office are expecting a further period of persistent and locally heavy rain on Sunday night and during Monday. The heaviest rain is expected across the northern half of England and north Wales with widespread rainfall amounts of 25 to 30 mm and locally 40 to 80 mm, along with a risk of up to 100 mm over hills. Localised flooding is likely where ground is already saturated and there could be some disruption to transport networks. This warning will be updated by 1200 on Saturday 19th January 2008.

    :D

I think this will tip us over the edge across Yorks and Lincs, I just hope mother nature is kind to us until then.

Just looking at the official records for Eastbourne's Met Office approved weather station for 2007, shows an annual rainfall of 704.1mm from 136 rain days and 701.5mm from 147 rain days in 2006

So far this year we have had 67.1mm (up to now) which compares with 74.2mm for all of January last year. With 13 days still to go it looks likey that the month to month figure will be higher but obviously there's another 11 months worth to analyse yet.

I go for the another 700mm ish year for us.

How can they say it wil be the wettest year ever when we haven't even got through the first month? I'm sure the MetO wouldn't say something like that - sounds like another classic tabloid mis-quote.

For all we know, it could be a record dry spring and/or summer or autumn, with the wet jan all but a distant memory.

A bit of poetic licence from the media probably.
