Aviation Weather/Metar/TAF

As I can't post an addition to John Holmes thread in the The Netweather Guides Area then I thought I'd post it here instead.

I've found some good links that will enable you to find out the latest METAR & TAF data from airports throughout the UK.

The one that has all the data, including METAR & decoded METAR, with history, is NOAA. Just select you airport and it will give you the latest data in both coded & decoded form on the same page.

One of the easiest I found was on Weather Charts.org. Just select the airport you want from the list and click the button below. It will take you to the latest coded data on the NOAA site. This one also give you TAF 9hr & TAF 18hr as well.

If you're interested in the ICAO codes then there's a full list of the ICAO codes for the UK airports at Alt.AIS including the position of the airport in Lat & Long.

Lastly, for those who want to decode their own METAR data, here's the link to NOAA's "Key to METAR Surface Weather Observations": http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/conver...tardecoder.html

I hope you find these interesting. :yahoo:

Two more excellent sources of METAR'S if you can read the codes:

    http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/metars/

    and

    http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/surface/

I use them in preference to the NOAA site. Both enable you to recall a sequence of observations for 36 or 60 hours using the drop down menu and cover the whole world (even Baghdad!).

    interesting links everyone thanks

i also use this programme for metars

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mweather.html

its completely bug free and it accesses the data automatically from about 5 sites most of which are mentioned above

been using it for about 3 years now and recommend it

I use Weather Display to create and upload the data for my weather site, this can be setup to download the raw Metars from NOAA, convert them and create nice stickers for my site:

    metar.gifmetar2.gif

I also have Inverness & Tiree on there. :nonono:
