Update From Paul S on Ian's account

We are sitting tight in Gainsville and have elected not to Chase the stupid fast moving Supercell about 60 miles North of here, our attention is drawn to a new storm that is going to track near to Sherman, we will move east on 82 and watch it come to us.

Paul Sherman

Front continues to activate slowly but surely with backbuilding linking to the complex coming along from the Aspermont to Breckenridge area, and also the large urban heating effect of DFW can be seen intensifying cells downwind, so as the front approaches the Gainesville-Decatur-Sherman triangle I think we will see some tornadic potential, probably in about an hour to 90 minutes. The second complex is likely to form a trailing bow echo type formation through the DFW metroplex around two to three hours from now. Storm chase may need to divert eventually further south to deal with that second batch of storms. Cell motion has been from 240-250 degrees but will slowly change now to 270-280 degrees.

Which radar is best to use to track these storms?

I'm watching some of the streaming cams and it would be good to see how close they are to the cells.

Thanks :)

Dennis Sherrod is getting a great view of the cell which is now SE of Sherman.

That's the one with the tornado warning too so it's worth keeping as eye on his stream :)

Yup, got his stream on live and watching his progress.

We need to encourage Paul & co. to join spotternetwork.org so we can track them in realtime! Stu and Gorky are on there.

We were just on the Sherman LP Supercell, amazing rotation and Funnel Cloud but just did not produce, we are sat right at the southern end of the cell east of Sherman. The pictures today are amazing.

Thanks for the update Paul, sorry that it wasn't as productive as you had hoped, but it sounds as though it was still well worth it.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Just in case you guys are wondering what I've been up to, I've been battling what I suspect is food poisoning and chasing has not been easy. I chased yesterday and abandoned the MCS which formed near Seminole to go down onto the Odessa cell but that died shortly after I got there. Then I had to pull in for the night in Midland as I was struggling to stay conscious! After empying my stomach for half the night I got up at 10:30 today which put me miles away from the action. I tried to gun East up I20 then decided on going North of FW rather than south. Could never catch up with the cell Paul and co were on. Caught a nice gust front on the line of cells behind just south of Ector. Could not get ahead of it to set up a timelapse no matter how hard I tried due to road networks in the area. I've pulled into Sherman for an early night as I feel very sickly again despite not eating now for 2 days. I hope I'm feeling a bit better for the next chase opportunity :)

PS. avoid Walmart's popcorn chicken at all costs! :D

Sorry to hear that, maybe a co-driver might have been a good idea, take some of the strain,

hope you feel well soon you need ya strength and ya wits about ya out there..!! Perhaps restin' up till Saturday and give the

slight risk in Kansas a miss. (high based thunderstorms low probability of tornadoes then likely to become MCS.)

I might pop up in a bit and catch up with you guys. I doubt I'll get anything to eat though with how delicate my stomach is right now!

An NL, I very nearly gave today a miss, but the SPC tempted me with the Tor risk :) Looks like there's only one tornadic cell going south of the metro so it was a little overblown today and the gust front was very nice, despite never being able to get out from under it. I don't have any plans tomorrow regards going back to KS. I'll see what tomorrows Day2 shows and use tomorrow to ease myself into an easy position for the following day, should there be any severe.

I was looking for you on spotternetwork and was wondering where you were! Sorry to hear you're ill and hope you recover quickly. Even if you're not eating try to keep the fluids going in -- I had the vomiting bug last year and the dehydration and headaches were the worst thing. Must be twice as bad with the Texan heat.

Paul, any chance you could join spotternetwork.org so we could track you live? Nathan and Stu are on there and it's fantastic to be able to watch them (and many others) pursue the storms in realtime in GRLevel3.
