That tweet has missed a lot of vital information that could cause unnecessary panic.

The advisory was issued on Thursday night local time, telling people to be alert but not to evacuate. It also stressed that the warning did not mean a large earthquake was imminent, but that the probability was higher than usual.

Experts say there is a 70% to 80% chance of a magnitude 8 or 9 quake striking somewhere along the trough in the next 30 years, according to the Kyodo News agency. Worst-case estimates suggest more than 200,000 people could be killed in the earthquake and potential subsequent tsunami.

However, at a press conference on Thursday, Japanese Meteorological Agency official Shinya Tsukada emphasised that while "there is a relatively higher chance of another major earthquake compared to normal times" they were not saying it would definitely happen "in a certain period of time".

Cayman Islands might just disappear if this is bad, West coast of the Cancun area is directly in the firing line and Punta Gorda in Belize will probably be wiped out.

Only a 0.1ft Tsunami reported so-far north of Playa Del Carman on the Yucatan. Possible 1-3m wave for Cuba but not anything that's a significant threat.

Hopefully,  it has passed without too much impact, there could well be localised inlets facing the earthquake site which will experience a higher surge , but let's wish otherwise.

Strong earthquake hits Myanmar

07:13Breaking

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake has struck Myanmar, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says.

The tremors were felt in China and Thailand, with footage on social media showing people evacuating buildings in Bangkok and gathering in the streets.

According to USGS, the earthquake's epicentre was located 16km (10miles) northwest of the Burmese city of Sagaing, near the city Mandalay. This is an area about 100km north of the capital Naypyidaw.

AFP journalists in Naypyidaw said roads were buckled by the force of the tremors and chunks fell from ceilings.

I saw the notification come up and my phone and when I went to my app I simply said ‘oh no’

Huge shallow 7.7mg quake under Mandalay which is a bit of rickety city but has more than 2million people.

This is going to be a worst case scenario

I came of twitter but I bet there are some shocking videos appearing!

Rescue conditions are going to be dreadful, this area is one of hottest and most humid areas of the world at this time of year. Temps in early April of 45C, with dew points in the high 20s aren’t uncommon. In fact Myanmar is one of few places in the world where heat indices can rival the Persian Gulf.
