    EVENING EVERYONE

    Hopefully im going to be relatively quiet , for the time being anyway, and whilst im quiet ive decided to start taking physical readings {temperature wise] of the North Sea, This morning , i went over to a place called Cambois , which is just North of Blyth about 5 mins drive, along the coast , found a place to park , virtually on the beach , {luckily the TIDE was in] Anyway the time was 0800hrs, {temeprature readings were taken very close to the beach}

    SEA TEMPERATURE this morning was 15.5c

    First picture was the original , but came out to bright because of the sun

    second picture, settings slightly adjusted

    third picture adjusted even more

    ======================================

    again sea temperature 15.5c at 0800hrs

    Nice pics Nigel, shame the North Sea is not really as blue as the 2nd pics suggests. :lol:

    well done nigel mate,is that a slightly higher than normal sea temp for this time of the year?

    Yes but you must remember he took the temperture readings close to shore so sea temps would be much higher than for example 100-200 miles out to sea.

    Temperature at 1400 this afternoon was 14.0c thats an increase of 1c since Friday,

    I must state that my measurements are on the shoreline , unfortunately i dont have the facilities to take the temperature out at sea , so i thiught this would be the next best thing!

    Ummmm Is there a reason this is in the climate change forum because perhaps I am a little slow, but wont the temperatures close to shore (i.e. near the beach) be strongly (and overwhelmingly so) affected by the prevailing meso/micro climatic conditions in the region? They I mean, other than telling you how warm (or rather cold) swimming at that particular beach will be, what use are they in the greater scheme of things?

    It would be interesting if you ploted daily temperatures and solar radiation along with them, because I will bet you there will be a direct relationship.

    Also, the tide coming in usually makes the water warmer than when the tide's going out, especially if it's daytime and the tide has come in over heated sand. So the time of day and relative tide position will also affect the water temperature.

    Interesting stats but are they at all meaningful in isolation?

    Jesus mate, settle down we were not having a go at you :) It will be an interesting study in how micro climatic conditions can affect water temps near the sea shore, it will be interesting to see how they correlate to tides as well!

    We were just pointing out that your readings will not really be useful for any climate change type analysis, but that is not to say it wont be useful for another type of study ... Dont take things so personally, you'll be an unhappy bloke if you do! :)

    These water temperatures are definitely worth recording, taken in context with other variables you may be able to prove how all the different variables relate to one another.
