I've got a stick. If I put it out the window and it gets wet, it's raining.

I believe this was a method heavily employed by JJB McCabe and Stratos in their determination of the correct SATSIGS alert level.

I had a weatherstick, basically it pointed upwards when dry and downwards when wet...I was only 10 or 11 at the time but it was pretty cool little instrument.
