While we continue to beat ourselves up about whether to cut emissions by 50, 60, 80 percent India has quiently done it's own piece of climate change research. The result? They see no reason to abandon the fight against poverty to tackle a perception of climate change they can find no evidence of on the Indian subcontinent.

India are second only to China in growth potential and both have the ability to dwarf the USA, which in turn dwarfs our output.

At what point will we wake up and smell the coffee and realise that the only real beneficiaries of such draconian cuts in our emissions, and the damage it will do to our advanced economies, will be the Chinese, Indians, and every anti-capitalist hater of the West?

However Carp the Indians viewpoint is at least they have the balls to say it will be B.A.U. for the foreseeable future. Most of the developed nations pay lip service to 'plans' ,targets and intentions yet their countries continue on at close to B.A.U. CO2 levels.

We (the world Govt.s) will do nothing to stop AGW (we're too late now anyhow IMHO) and by the time collapses begin on a scale that impacts the first/developed world and causes hysteria amongst the populace they will merely resort to scapegoating onto the developing world all the issues being faced.

Though I am deeply saddened by the stance I do applaud India's forthright honesty.

According to Marc Morano of the US Senate minority web page (though, you'd never guess it wasn't speaking for the govt...). Of course, he's got no political axe to grind for his master the well know extreme AGW sceptic Senator Inhofe? Oh no of course not...

I think nations that are efficient in their fossil fuel energy use, have measure to ensure good air quality are the nations everyone should want to live in. But, maybe not, perhaps inefficient industries, smog, filth and increased inequality are they way to go...

Coffee smell it aint, so I do suspect India will get there in the end.
