Started off the day (7.30am) with mist and dew on the grass (somewhat to my surprise), but at that time the humidity was still 94%. After the mist burned off (about 9.00am) it turned into a lovely sunny day and the humidity dropped to 50% by 5pm.

I'm sure my thermometre is working properly but today we have passed the 30C mark here. The morning was mostly clear an cloudless, then altocumulus and cumulus towers strated going up. Thunderstorms started arriving after 4.30pm and there ahve been two thunderstorms here this evening but hardly any rain, just a few thundery raindrops as the main focus of storms have tracked northwards across Bristol.

Clear periods last night and it was relatively cool.

Sunny periods much of the day (we were at the beach all afternoon!). Very warm and quite humid even on the coast, although a slight sea breeze helped at times. I took several readings in the shade of the cliff at Llangrannog (near Aberporth!) and each time it was 25-26c, not bad for a Welsh beach with the sea at my feet :o Tied in well with the max on the cliff tops at Aberporth 3 miles away

As we headed for the car at 1900 the storm clouds rolled in from the SE with TL and torrential downpours on the way home. Back home there had also been downpours with 5mm in less than an hour, and a neighbour said it had thundered here as well. There had been a strong gust of wind just after 1900 when the storms started at home that we did not get on the coast, and the temperature fell 8c in the hour to 18c.

It was the hottest day of the year back home today.

Another brief shower 2130 and overcast and humid this evening.

Min: 10.5c @ 0200.

Max: 27.8c @ 1615.

Yesterdays rain: Nil.

Todays rain since 10am: 5.5mm (most in 1 hour).

Currently: Rather cloudy, dry.

Temp: 17.2c.

Pressure: 1010 mbar, steady.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
