Thanks to everyone so far who has posted in this thread, keep your thoughts going...

Fond memories of recent autumns past:

Mid Oct 1993 - almost a week of near winter conditions, frequent ground frosts and sleety showers courtesy of a cold northerly

Late Nov 1993 - mid winter cold severe frost

Late Oct 2000 - very stormy spell and cold to boot with snow

Late Nov 2005 - cold anticylonic conditions

Mmm there is a theme here ... those first signs of winter....

However, fond memories have been few and far between in the main in recent years, very mild being the common theme unfortunately, please no repeat of Sept 2005/Oct 2005 or Sept 2006/Oct 2006..

Something I noticed on the way home today - last year there was Sycamore that turned a stunning red (well, half of it did and the rest just dropped a greenish colour - never seen anything like it). Today the leaves on the same half of that tree are turning red. The leaves on the climber of a house nearby are also red. So far looking good for some colour.
