Where on earth did all this fog come from? Visibility is currently below 50 metres, not looking forward to the drive home in a bit from my night shift!

Warm air, cold sea. Classic for sea fog.

It's 14/11 here so that reasonable dewpoint is helping keep up the evening temperature (just gone 4PM). Sunset at about 6PM now. Probably we're in for a mild night despite clear skies. A minimum of about 8C I would imagine. For the last day of winter, I can live with this.

Good few days of sunshine and warm winds to come, which should help dry things out after the deluges of July.

Indeed, it happens a lot here on the east coast, but on this occasion the wind is coming from the wrong direction.

Looking on the metoffice observations, the mist and fog seems pretty widespread. Its likely a result of the extremely humid air which has kept us cloudy all week, meaning that going on recent form, it could be quite difficult to burn off.

I'd say the sun shouldn't have too many issues, get enough heating through to the surface and it'll clear upwards anyway.

Temperatures at 3PM - Invercargill was the warmest, with Nelson the coldest. Incredibly cold actually, that sort of thing does not happen often at all.

Got woken up by a few rumbles of thunder at about 8.

It's now been raining steadily for more than an hour - the first decent rain this summer.

A cooler night that expected which scuppered any chances of August being the warmest month of the summer for us. Foggy and damp with light drizzle first thing sun now trying to get out.

Dry up to now, currently 17C so feeling a little cooler than of recent!

Expecting some rain later but absolutely no chance of thunder here unfortunately. That will signal the end of summer weather and well as we head into Autumn will turn much much cooler.

Pretty much the same as all week. Cloud holding the temps down but the fogs gone at least otherwise a pretty unremarkable day.
