attachment=68255:IMG_0272_1.JPG] Feeling very autumnal last night down to 6c as this guy agrees as he got a warm dry mat to sit on at the backdoor with one of the farm cats, perhaps not the best place to hibernate Cool strong NE wind off the sea here today 13c drizzly in the morning but brighter now combines round about making progress again this afternoon.

Wonderful image there! I wonder if the cat realises just want that spiky thing in front of it is..

Well one word sums up today 'filthy', not often I would use such a strong word, but today really has warranted it, incessant rain for most of the day with a strong gusty cold NE wind - its felt as if we have borrowed a day from November. There was an hour around 11am when it felt like the depths of winter!

Thankfully in the last couple of hours the rain has eased and it doesn't look like we will get the same intensity overnight and tomorrow as we have seen in the past 24-30 hours.

Northumberland looks to have been hardest hit today particularly The Cheviots and low lying areas close to the River Wansbeck and Coquet. Tomorrow shouldn't be anywhere near as bad but the front only looks to slowly dissapate, so I'm expecting patchy light rain on and off well into the afternoon. The sunshine continues to elude us...

The forecast yesterday had cloud, rain, damp and gloomy conditions lasting the whole day over my area, but it's been cracking the flags. Glorious warm sunshine, with only frequent cloudy spells. It's filled in a bit now, but all considering a really nice late summer's day.

Yep, the best day here for quite a while - warm enough to sit outside in my shorts !!! Clouding over now, and maybe get the first rain of the day soon, but today has been the first opportunity to properly get stuck into tidying up the garden for quite sometime. Isn't the British weather funny !!!

We've essentially had nearly 36 hours of rain now, aside from the occasional few hours here and there, one of which allowed the temperature to hit 18.1C. The rainfall totals for just 6 days into the month are staggering:

1st: 6.7mm

2nd: 16.0mm

3rd: 3.6mm

4th: Trace

5th: 20.2mm

6th: 36.0mm

Total: 82.5mm

September average: 52.1mm

So 158% rainfall and still 24 days to go yet!

Also:

Jan 1st - Sept 6th 2008 rainfall: 732.5mm

Annual average: 565.4mm

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
