Extratropical directly translates to "out of tropics". Extratropical lows are the technical term for the depressions that hit our shores. Sinlaku has moved out of the tropics and therefore is now this type of storm. Extratropical storms are generally larger than tropical storms and lack a warm (tropical) core.
