I listened with amusement on country file this lunch time. Not about the plight the crops were in as this is serious but the rubbish the women came out with.

Farmers need to change there farming methods to cope with increased and heavier rainfall.

It wasn't very long they were saying that farmers had to change there methods becuase of the reduction of the rainfall.

I wish these people would stop making alarmist statements and realise that climate does naturally vary. In five years time it maybe drought drought.

If they want to be taken seriously they can't take every slight swing in the climate and make it into dooms day scenario.

Two wet summers does not make Armageddon.

...but you try telling this to the agw (capital letters not required) crew who try influence our way of thinking.

If they want to be taken seriously

...they shouldn't break the law in the name of Global Warming if they want to be taken seriously, but that's for another thread.

I wish these people would stop making alarmist statements

This is exactly why more and more people are questioning the silliness of their statements - they get up people's noses tenfold by the day, globally.

Good point! I was thinking the same as you, how many times do we have to hear this rubbish?! Man has been battling against the elements since time began and because we have a run of wet/dry years these folks make such alarmist comments on wondering how we are gonna cope! I do really feel sorry for the farmers this year ,but what you fail to hear of is the number of good years farmers and growers have had ,and you dont often hear of there success, they have survived up to now and they will continue to do so ,the point is there is nothing new about our weather in this country being varied, it changes from year to year some wet, years ,some dry and a good many more years being very kind indeed! :D
