no we are due a mild zonal Xmas, 05 and 06 were cold quiet, 07 was not zonal, was sunny although not as cold, probably a pressure pattern similar to 1990, any snow will be above 300m in scotland

There's probably a higher risk of gettin a white 25th November this year than December looking at the Long Range Forecast. Though, this winter is progged not to be quite as disgustingly mild as the previous few so that may be a good starting point.

Nope unless someone spills some white wash.

Plenty of NO again this winter if the long range forecast is correct.

Forecast headline

Our third forecast suggests a decreased chance of a white Christmas for parts of the UK. We currently expect the UK to be under a westerly airstream during Christmas day and this is likely to bring a mix of sunny spells and showers to western areas. The showers are likely to fall as rain except over the highest ground in northern England and Scotland where some sleet or snow is possible.

Probabilities

Northern areas of the are considered to have a 18% chance of a white Christmas.

Southern areas of the are considered to have a 12% chance of a white Christmas.

Don't worry Stuart, think on the 'kiss of death' principle that when TWO go for a white Xmas forecast - it is likely to be green and vice versa. But best advice is take any forecast this far off for Xmas with a pinch of salt!

Wait until mid december when the signs begin to appear not 3 months before - absolutely no point speculating at this stage

Well the speed that winter sems to be arriving up here over the past fwe weeks i wouldnt be surprised if it was, we are due one, however, the past 2 christmas days have been white up here but white with frost, very hard frost that has lasted all day, not quite the same thing but still very christmassy!!! So on that basis i will say yes the ground will be white but maybe with snow!!!!

Much as i would love it to be white it will not be for us down here. I do think that we are due some better snow chances than we have had in previous years though.

 Not a snowball's chance in hell.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if the temperature was 0C on Christmas morning... that's how dire Christmas weather has become. The long range says above average and dry for December and January. Another dismal winter in Mild Grey Island's on the cards.
