Sorry, a little bit late with these!

'September 21st - Parts of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa were transformed into a "winter wonderland" after snow blanketed several areas of the province. Temperatures plummeted into the low teens, with residents of Kokstad and Giants Castle waking up to 0 DgC' www.int.iol.co.za

'September 22nd - Perth today shivered awake to its coldest September morning on record. The overnight temperature fell to a chilly 1 DgC just before 6am' www.news.com.au

'September 16th - A cold weather record set in 1925 went by the books on Monday, as temperatures in Hungary plummeted' www.caboodle.hu

A 2008 trend or just coincidence?

Perth I don't think has been having a warm Spring so far....but not too far off average. Somewhat in contrast to the east where 35C was breached in Brisbane in September (obscene!) and I think also in Sydney at some point.

Perth does tend towards cooler nights though due to the dryness of the climate.

I'm sure every year you could find somewhere that has a cold snap!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
