Jacques Piccard, Underwater Pioneer Dies

I think this deserves a thread as Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay climbed to the heights of human exploration on Earth, so Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh dived to the great depths of underwater exploration.

On the 23rd January 1960, Piccard and Walsh dived 35,800 ft to the base of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific. It is the deepest dive ever recorded.

Jacques Piccard died aged 86, another great explorer of the 20th century we lost this year.
