Cold start first week(well below average)-> then mostly above average, until the 29th when cold returns bringing CET back to near average.

4.5 C ... prolonged cold more likely in Jan than Dec, expecting a month with large variations, mild and perhaps stormy around mid month, colder both ends. Should all average out a bit below the recent normals but near the 350-yr average.

"The latest update to the Met Office winter forecast suggests that although the coming winter will have temperatures near or above average, it is very likely that December will be colder than normal."

Screw 7.1c then. 3.6c.

Ah December,

Cold enough to merit a cup of mulled wine

Therefore I think 5.9! ;)

A mild(er) second half of the month will raise temps despite the cold start sadly :(

Well, both of my methods call for below average, so 4.1C is my predction, 1C below average.
