With December only week away i think its about time to open this topic. I wonder how many peoples guesses will be effected by the recent cold snap and likely cold start to December

'71-'00 average is 5.1c

5.5C. Cold first week, a spell of mild westerly winds in the middle third of the month, and probably close to average temperatures during the last third of the month.

Right, no sign of the PV around Greenland, no major cooling of the polar stratosphere, month after month of around average to below average temps, 2 major snowfall events and it ain't even Winter yet, Hale winter, more snow to come next week somewhere, we just don't know where yet, reliable timeframe shows below average temps for next week, persistance of mid atlantic high, zonality has done a bunk, my first ice day in five years yesterday.

December has to be well below average doesn;t it?

Put me down for 3.5oC.

Hello from a lurker who's just sprung into life!

My first attempt at this: 4.4C

Essentially cool/cold 1st-8th

Fairly mild 9th-18th

At least one exceptionally cold period between 19th and 31st

Happy Winter everyone!

Very undecided, so going to sit on the fence and be very boring. Bang on the average, 5.1c. Hope it comes in at a lot colder, of course.

Due to the credit crunch and no Xmas bonus at work :good: , I wont be able to buy you anything for Xmas.

Thought you might like one of these to wake up to on Xmas day.

You in the north of Britain can have your white Xmas, if I can save my present for Boxing Day.

I might not have to work for once on a Boxing Day, if that came off, as if. :good:

Regards,

Tom.

the first half of the month looks like coming in below average and possibly well below if we get a mid lat high over us after a cool first week or so. i'll guess that the second half recovery in temps wont be enough to get it above average: 4.5c

I know it's late, but I feel it's worth sacrificing points for a better entry. 4.6C- I think the Atlantic westerlies may well have a tough time taking hold until at least midmonth.
