Nice little wet snow/hail shower just blew through. Must have enough of an easterly component in the wind direction to bring them over the Pennines. Reminds me how exciting ‘wintry’ showers can be away from South London. Look forward to climbing up to 1000 ft this afternoon to collect my girl from school. Bring it on, I say

Just had an unexpected ''Wintry Mix'' here in Essex. Sky was jet black and the wind really picked up as the shower moved through. Clear skies again now although everywhere is soaked.

No idea on temperature but having just been out i can confirm that the wind is bitter, colder than i expected here today.

Mostly sunny here but had a spectacular mini 'storm' move through earlier. Suddenly the sky really darkened and after little wind a really strong 1 minute gust occurred which moved alot of debris around the office car park including the top of a lamp post. Not much rain but saw it streaking from the sky to our west. Great weather!

A ground frost (min 2c) and mostly clear start to the day was quickly followed by a weak front that brought an hour or so of light rain/drizzle.

As soon as the rain cleared a very strong, bitter NE wind picked up and ushered in much clearer sky so that since 10.30 we've had sunny spells, a gusting NE wind, a few blustery showers and maximum temperature of 7c.

It's actually generally colder in the SW than over the weekend .

I noticed on the Netweather detector there had been a few strikes around our area this morning, around the time I woke up with hail battering on my window. What time did you hear thunder?

Also as i've just mentioned in the Cold Spell Discussion, we've had some proper snow recently in Consett which has covered the cars. That's what i've heard from someone I work with but I can't see outside.

Its been a strange sort of day here with a fairly sunny morning interspersed with the odd hail shower,since about 1 pm we have had a sequence of heavyish hail rain and sleet showers and it feel very raw,current temperature is 2.6c so I suppose if the sky clears for any length time tonight it will become very icy.
