Still cold, around 5degC, but blue sky now exceeds the grey and the earlier breeze has now died to nothing. All in all a nice end-of-November day.

As is very often the case with fog/mist/low cloud here it lingered well into the afternoon (except for brief lifts to allow bright spells) and, just as the sun is setting, has cleared completely :yahoo: probably in readiness to return quickly after dusk but with the advantage of what looks like being a colourful, even eerily shaded sunset!

It's been calm throughout the day with a max of 6c, 5c at the moment.

Took this just as daylight was fading 20 mins ago, the fog had cleared, to reveal a large convective cumulus, in the NE SKY, almost cumulonimbus in character, most odd after a cold and locally foggy day, not sure what would create such development in these unfavourable conditions. All local power stations closed a few years ago. i would guess the location would be towards Castle Donington.

looks like a volcanic eruption

As far as I know all volcanic activity ceased her around 2.5 million years ago, :yahoo: so I doubt it, unless something new has irrupted out of the blue :shok:

Thanks John, must be it, I doubted it was natural.

Snow can settle at around 4-5c but for the obvious reasons wont last long at all. For a prolonged snow settle it needs to be preferably around 0c although 1c will give you a few hours if it was deep enough.

Hardly likely to settle much at 2c never mind 4-5c, Only in downpoors possibly. Snow settles best when temperatures are hovering just below freezing.

Some really dense fog here seriously, just been out for a nightmare drive tooo :yahoo: . temperature 1.8c

interesting that Connor, what sort of visibility do you estimate? has it been that all day or when did it arrive

It dropped to around 200 meters by 3pm, had a cold day today with a high of just 3.2c.

Currently foggy and chilly though temperature hasnt really dropped over the past 2 hours, currently 2.2c.
