Currently 1C with a dew point of -0.9C, lovely and clear after all the rain yesterday, but driving was, how can I put it, interesting over the moors this morning! Ponds and grass all still frozen, as are the roads which are starting to re-freeze now the sun has dropped.

The main effect of last evening's light rain was to produce a very icy start to today with temperature down to -1c. It was frosty through until mid-morning and, after some patches of mist/low cloud had cleared, the sun has shown throughout . Max 5c, 3c now and a rapid frost to come this evening.

Temperature has plummeted to -1.5c, snow still remains on sheltered ground. Beautiful winter's day. I think this has to be one of the best cold spells I can remember, not in terms of cold, but in terms of low temperatures and the fact there is no sign of a mild blast in the near future. What a start to winter, long may it continue.

It's true - it's like nothing I can remember in the last few years. Not since I was a kid in the 80s/early 90s anyway. Still yet to see lakes frozen over and buckets of snow like the 80s used to give us but still it's a start. The fairly decent sunshine totals have made this spell even better too.

A lovely day today, unbroken sunshine all day and still a few patches of snow on hills plus everywhere that has been in sunlight is white with frost.

Still yet to see lakes frozen over

To my surprise a pond (approx 75m in diameter) between Westbury and Trowbridge was half frozen when I drove home at about 13.00 today and that's after two minimums of around -1c! If we'd had -3c or -4c it wouldn't have been a surprise.

Stunningly beautiful winters day here today with a covering of about 1 inch of snow, no wind, max of 0c after min of -4c last night. Blue skies and sunshine till late pm when high cloud from the west started to come in -are we going to see more snow tonight?. Hills round the Firth look resplendant in their winter snow cover. Its many years since it was so wintry in early December and we have now had 6 consecutive nights of frost.

One of the best early winter days i can remember round here for a while. 2 inches of lying snow all day thick ice on all minor roads.

7th night of hard air frost already -4 and falling, most other nights minus 4 or lower -7 the lowest.I have just been up to about 360metres and there is over 6 inches of lying snow.
