frosty about -5c and the weather forecast shows the latest temps at -3c so obualslouy its a couple of degrees below it! The max is 3c but

if it goes the way the forecast says id say it will go far lower to about 1c.

Great sunny, frosty ,dry,( no mud) start to the day -2c and no wind. A great improvement on the previous 24 hrs when it was very wet and the mud on the farm was as bad as ever. Two observations on how the continuing cold is impacting on nature, I flushed a woodcock feeding beside the farm steading at 10.00am yesterday normally a dusk and dawn feeder at the edge of woods and very shy and a huge flock of pigeons numbering in the region of 4000 descended on about 60 acres of stubbles behind the farmhouse probably including some visitors from Scandnavia, this also applies to the woodcock population.

Sunny and almost cloudless, just a few fragments of stratocumulus on the north eastern horizon.

Most of the night was cloudy with light rain showers and a slow thaw which has reduced the snow cover to about 30% this morning, so no 5th day with snow lying.

Temp' currently 2.6c after a min' of 1.6c.

Now that's a telling statistic Paul, I think it should be PMd to every forum user to show what an excellent (and very different to recent years) start to winter this has been :) !

    Sunny, but showery!

Light showers throughout yesterday evening and all night. Snow at first, then sleet, now rain.

    Temp 3.5, min 1.3.

A lot of snow still. 5th consecutive day with cover, 9th since end of Nov. I'm not sure if you can call it snow really, there's about 4/5cm of solid ice on the lawn.

Had some more rain through the day yesterday and more rain during the night, and still the snow holds on.

50% cover of 2cm still there, and very icy on some pavements where the snow was compacted down.

    5.2º and sunny.

Thats 5 consecutive snow lying at 9am days.

An overnight low of -0.9C and the frost remains on areas out of the sun, which is currently (had it not gone down behind the hill) wall to wall. More frost beginning to form in the sheltered areas... its going to be a cold un!

    • Exceptional warmth for western Europe as October begins

There'll be exceptionally warm temperatures for the time of year affecting much of western Europe during the coming days, but that warmth will only graze the UK for now. Next weekend may see a more direct hit with the potential for southerly winds to draw some of that heat north and take temperatures into the mid or high-twenties. Read the full update here

Wind and rain before Spanish heat arrives for the weekend

There will be downpours into Tuesday with blustery winds picking up. Western Scotland will see a wet few days later this week. Then heat from Spain will surge up from the south giving a warm weekend. Read the full update here
