Cold and frosty this morning, (minimum –1.2, grass minimum –3.2c) This now being the 14th frost here since the beginning of the month, the mean temperature for the first half of December = 1.5c. At observation, bright, cold and frosty with misty conditions over the near by fields. Staying cold all day with persistent ground frost in the shade, bright though with weak hazy sunshine. Top temperature 1.7c, maximum wind gust 6mph, NNW. The evening saw an air frost quickly returning.

Thats pretty impressive Mark; and it just goes to remind us that County Durham has a history of being the snowiest place in England and Wales when counting days with lying snow prior to the late nineties (as TWS mentioned).

Sad that its melted now though; but its better than my lowland 3 days with snow-cover (which admittedly turned more to slush and ice).

Thankfully after a very foggy start there has been some hazy sunshine, however it's now cloudy with drizzle in the air. We also had a slight frost with the temperature at 0c first thing, it's 4c now and a gentle SW wind has started to pick up.
