Interesting Press Release from the Met Office :-

Christmas is Coming

Mild, wet and windy conditions over much of the UK this weekend look set to give way to something more seasonal during the Christmas week.

Fog and frost are increasingly likely during next week, although a dry theme to the weather means it is unlikely that any of us in the UK will see snow at Christmas.

Forecasters at the Met Office are expecting areas of dense and, in some areas, freezing fog to last all day as we head towards the festive period.

After a mild weekend, temperatures are expected to fall again and could remain close to freezing where fog persists.

Wouldn't really call it interesting as we already pretty much know most of what it says. Would like a frosty rather than wet Christmas though.

Can I just assure that those who doubt 10C, it will occur, however the maximum temperatures applies for today until midnight, and there is 10 hours for 10C to occur. The temperature occurring is no different to what it was forecast to be at this stage.

Cannot disagree with that. Wouldn't be surprised if and when it starts raining here temps will rise.

Keenly feeling the cold as the spare part to my CH arrived yesterday only to find another part doesn't work. Hoping for Heat and Hot water anytime after 1500 today. If not, sometime Monday. Which will be two weeks and 5 parts later!

As is so often the case, the minute I post a weather report the weather conditions change...

The wind is starting to pick up; we've just had a gust of 15.9mph. It's begun to rain and the temperature has risen to 9.2ºc.

The pressure indicator on my weather station is flashing which means the pressure must be dropping quite quickly too; it's now 1014.8hPa.

You'll need that hot water for Christmas :o

As for the temperature, I didn't post all that long ago, that it was 6.7C it's now 9.1C so there is a huge rise in temperatures after the front has gone through.

Chilly here at the moment with a strengthening wind and some rain around, it does not look like it will be mild here tonight as according to the models there is cooler air moving in so going to feel pretty cold in Scotland and Northern England tonight with severe gales certainly possible.

Tonight winds could well be severe gale force on the lee of the Pennines as it often is in these set ups, also the Western Isles could experiance 80mph gusts, maybe 90MPH i would not rule out either.

Aberdeen reached 11 yesterday with the warm sector moving through - positively tropical compared to today. Clouds & rain arrived this morning and it is getting quite windy/gusty now (45mph gusts). Windchill currently -2. Temp around 4. Pressure falling - currently 999mb.

We went to pick up the xmas tree a couple of hours ago and it was pretty parky in the forest. Stopped for a venison burger (it's a tradition!) and the man in the burger van was saying he'd had to dig it out this morning - he comes in from Tomintoul.

Do you know the good thing about this winter so far :o ?

No? Well I'll tell you...

... even when it's turned milder than the opening half of the month the day still started frosty, clear and sunny before clouding over with a few hazy sunny spells, a gentle Westerly breeze and not too mild a max of 10c.
