it does seem to, going to be warmest december for me since i started temps in 2004, i changed my thermometer on 30th aug 08

Lovely day here - sunshine, mild tempertures, lovely clouds. I know it's unpopular here but out with non-weather people they see today as fantastic! Had a nice cycle to the pub and was very refreshing to only need a light jacket and not mind if it let a small bit of outside air in. It meant we could sit outside the pub (albeit with gas heaters) without freezing to death which certainly helped my ever lasting cold! Can't say I'd want this all winter but it's a nice novelty once in a while.

Drove down the M1 from Watford today - 13c on the car thermometer - lovely rolling stratacumulus with odd gaps at say, 2,000 feet.

Having said this there was a fantastic sunset yesterday with perhaps 3/8 cloud cover - strata cu again.

If you had read posts by the likes of Nick Sussex and BFTP about a week ago you'd have seen them say that to get to a far colder pattern we'd have to have some mild first, simply because of the way pressure patterns work.

I'll bet anything that many many winters in the distant past had December days with temperatures into the low teens so it isn't anything to do with 'even larger teapot'!
