Hmmm.....beginning to think this cold is going to be a recurring feature, even if there are slightly milder interludes.

I, too, shall go with a chillyish +3.1oC, a tad colder than 2001, but not as low as 1997.

And a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!, everyone.

Ossie

December is usually the coldest winter month of recent years anomoly wise and I cannot see anything different with this winter so: January after a cold start, then briefly milder then cooler zonality at times. I'll say 4.1C

3.7c (0.5c below average) for me please :) Below average first half but i suspect a milder second half if the Atlantic returns. If the high sets up shop over the UK though then it would probably colder. However sods law would be for it not to :D

This is a very hard one because I can see it going two ways, but I'm going to keep the faith that the cold will hold. So:

2.2C for me please.

Eeek. Could it be colder than this? I might update when the 18z is coming out, but I've had a hunch all day that things are turning severely cold ...

The question is how much do you believe the models?

Not very much really - so I'll punt for 1.7c

I think 3.9C but i hope its considerably lower than that!

PS-This may seem a stupid/novicey question but could someone direct me to a website that has previous CETs for the UK from the last few months etc? I used to be able to find it on the MO site but its elusive now!

Thanks

Argh. Everytime I've changed at last minute I've been wrong, so I'm not going to jinx it this time. I'll sacrifice my result for the greater good lol. It's just that I could easily see this going sub 1C.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/hadle.../HadCET_act.txt - Monthly Records.

http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/mly_cet_mean_sort.txt - Ranking months in order (coldest first).

A repeat of Januray 1795 would be wonderful.

Thought I'd be clever and wait until the last minute for the models to sort themselves out a bit! :)

More confused than ever now. So going for a conservative 3.8c.

Hope I'm wrong and its much lower of course.

Happy New Year to all NW members. :)

Best wishes and regards,

Tom.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
