Currently -4, definitely out there tonight. Temps barely risen above freezing today and yesterday, thick frost staying all day. Sods law says if there is a likelihood of snow round these parts, temps will rocket to 6 and we'll get rain; hey ho.

It was cloudy for most of the night but the pond (80' diameter and between 6 and 9' deep) is frozen and as this is the third day with no thawing, the ice patterns on the surface have intensified to what looks, oddly, like the map of the world.... Hope the fish are alright though.

Was beginning to think the sun forgot to come up this morning. However, I'm pleased to report it hasn't dropped off the side of the world and a huge dark red ball is emerging from a low bank of distant cloud. Utterly beautiful.

After a night like yesterday - cloud constantly drifting in off the channel which stopped a frost and causing the temperature to rise to 2.9c, as we approach sunrise the sky suddenly almost completly clears but with very little time for a frost to form. :wacko:

Temp just dropped to 1.7c

high of 2.9c at 7:42

low of 0.3c at 1 minute past midnight.

Really cold here this morning, it's been down to -5.9c and is currently -4.5c.

and another grey and cold day starts. A min of -0.1C so we must have had some cloud breaks around the time it recorded that, 0312 according to Davis, who seems not to mind standing in the cold telling me what is happening!

-9c currently and beautiful sunrise fog rolled in from the coast overnight again so trees are even more spectacular with hoar frost, will try and get some photos later Max of -3.3c yesterday at Kinloss right at sea level with the fog and coldest in UK yesterday, its just like a deep freeze up here currently and a watch has to be kept on all pipework for freezing, elctricity bills will be massive.Ground now iron hard.

We're a bit slower than most places here in Cumbria.

I actually had a -6.8 in January this year, so last night wasn't the coldest. Perhaps tonight will beat that?

Feeling cold again and mainly overcast this morning with the temperature slightly above freezing, though the grass temperature slightly below. The day continued feeling very cold, with overcast conditions throughout. Maximum temperature 1.8c, maximum wind gust 22mph ENE.
