Well does it feel cold outside? The sort of weather you would never mow your lawn in. Weatheronline has you at -4c but then again it has Lakenheath (10m) at 30c.

In my part of the city it isn't that, but then again it does look like some freezing fog is on its way in. Temperatures are currently -5'C here, having dropped 1'C in 10 minutes...

Ten minutes later and it was -3.3...Either there's a lot of inter-mixing of air layers, or an electronic glitch...Which is more likely? I'll opt for a glitch.

Well you'll be wrapping up warm tonight, Tomas Schafeneker mentioned temperatures below -15c tonight for the North of Scotland.

*If that's the case, could well be the coldest night since March 2006 (which managed below -16.0c.)

^ March 2006 was very cold at the beginning, very snowy :D . In saying that, only a year ago high pressure made temperatures in Inverness dip to -13'C...beating that record would be fantastic :D

Still -5'C here.

Odd sort of a day so far - from a high of around 5 at around 2am, the temps started dropping to around 2, reached at 8am. Rose a little to 3-4 mid morning and have dropped down to 2ish again. DP currently 0.

Skies cleared with sunshine when the rise to 3 occurred, but since then some cloud has come over - this coincided with the drop to 2. Temps still falling. Seems the wrong way round to me - temps usually rise with cloud cover and fall when the skies are clear, in this sort of setup.

Pressure a steady 1030mb, wind is a very light 7mph from the south.

That'll be namby pamby Pennine fells weather for ya. :D It's still only -5.3 here after a low of -8.3. Not the coldest night of the year but close.

I'm no namby-pamby Pennine inbred; I'm a classy and refined Upper Edener. Anyway, yours will be artificial cold, produced by the National Trust to impress the Japanese tourists.

1.1º here now, and as sunny as my disposition.

Cloud trying to break up as it did a little at some points yesterday (although quickly closed up as sun dropped). Now 1.9c so we've moved a whole 0.6c since todays low of 1.3c at 10am.

Bloomin cold me thinks. 0.5C max now at -0.3C.

Typical dull grey although for a second I did see the sun this afternoon. If the skies clear tonight and thats a big if we could get a very rare very cold night.

Sunny in Cullompton, Devon after a rather cloudy start to the day. Odd patch of thin Stratocumulus floating about around 2000-2500 feet with the first signs of warmer air advancing in from the southwest as thin high cirrus starts to invade! Poor low level visibility beneath a 2500 footish! well marked inversion but reasonably pleasant compared withe the last few days with an outside air temperature of +6c!..

1400 synop.................

Very monochrome here as well temp -1.1C . Doesnt feel that cold because lack of wind. Only sun I 've seen in days was over in sunny Cumbria on Xmas day.

If a pool of cold air is pushed across into Ireland then yes, it's entirely possible. Probably won't be that cold in Ireland for around 24 hours though, not to say there won't be a few cold locations.
