Llangollen Heavy Hoar Frost!

I decided to take a New Year's stroll up and around the hills surrounding Llangollen. The town itself only had a regular frost with temperatures around -4C, however when I started to move up to high ground, I was surprised to find the visibility dropping, freezing fog setting in, as well as rather gusty winds behind it!

Spectacular scenes from around the hills, somewhat of an arctic feel!, with really thick hoar frost developing, chiefly above 300m.

From a distance, one might be mistaken for thinking this is actually snow, with some of the frost being over an inch thick, as well as the frost falling off the branches and depositing on the roads, giving a covering of over a centremetre of ice in places.

The temperature was around -5.9C when I was out trekking, with a significant windchill factor of -14C!

For these reasons, I only made it up to around 400m, I had to turn around, however I would have liked to have seen what it was like further up towards the Berwyn Mountains.

    Enjoy!

Gorgeous pictures, it was similar today down in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. In October I cycled up that way from Cheltenham, as far as the beautiful Pistyll Rhaeadr in the Berwyns; I imagine that would be looking stunning at the moment!

I took a few pictures with a phone camera today, annoyingly I didn't have my proper camera: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3102/315686...d3627e77f_o.jpg

who needs snow when you can get views like that from a bit of frost.

love a good hoar frost especially on the evergreen trees.
