Despite today's sunshine, patches of frost and ice remain on quite a lot of sheltered untreated roads and pavements locally. The walk to and from school this morning and this afternoon was quite treacherous. There was a little bit of cloud around 3-4pm, but that's cleared now and the temperature is falling again.

Clear and -1C here. Been cloudy all morning, cleared this afternoon with a few light snow flurries but apart from that - zilch in the way of snow. Pretty pathetic really.

Gonna be a cold one tonight though!

Clear, with the temperature currently at -0.1. Light snow showers this morning cleared to give a fine afternoon during which the light dusting of snow melted - maximum 3.4 after an overnight minimum of -1.1. Expecting a much colder night tonight, with -5 predicted widely in the south (that probably means about -3 to -4 here).

Nick I'm not having a go at you, but are you having a laugh?

If you had 0.0c at 17.21 and a rising temp of -1.0c ay about 18.45 that means it dropped at least one degree in little over an hour - which I presume was under clearer sky.

Therefore when the sky clears later, which it will, the temp will plummet.

No thawing at all of last night's snow, although it has 'settled' a bit. Apart from a few flakes of snow from time to time it's been a dry and cold day with sunny intervals and patches of stratocumulus and cumulus moving in from the north east.

After a partly sunny day with a max of 2.8c the cloud begun to roll in at sunset so once more we're bottomed at 1.1c... Seems to be the opposite to those summer days where it stays cloudy all day then clears at sunset keeping temps as low as possible.

Shame as I'd like to join in with the -4c and below that so many are getting! We've not dipped below -2c this winter yet.

That east wind is nasty though - really raw to cycle home against - can feel the uppers of -12c despite the not so cold actual temps!

Currently -2oC, not much snow melt either today, even in direct sunshine. Remain to be convinced its going to be the coldest night of the year so far, because its been below -4oC at this time a few days ago, but you never know, it tends to be colder when you have lying snow

Now -0.7c and I think that's as low as it's gonna go for the time being.

Currentky -3c here and the ground is iron hard after a slight thaw at the weekend when we had rain which has all frozen again making all surfaces very slippy. Speaking to a loss adjuster following a claim for one of our cottages( no sun on them at this time of the year as the coniferous wood to the south and west now completely shades them and turns them into a deep freeze in weather like this) and which suffered a burst pipe with guests in it and lots of heating on between Christmas and New Year and he was saying they have been inundated with claims in our area as people return from holiday to flooded houses. The base at Kinloss was partially shut down today as a new water main had frozen and burst along with numerous smaller freeze ups. One primary school and a nursery in the town is shut too because of burst pipes and flooding, a lot may be due to cutting back on heating because of the cost, but in all fairness we have not had a 4 day spell with temperatures not rising above - 4 c during the day and falling to -12c at night for many years ,December 1981 comes to mind as a cold one but maybe not so many consecutive days. Even if it warms up now we will all feel up here that we have had a winter and it is an ill wind that blows no one any good as many in the building trade set upon repairing the damage in the next month or two .
