I think the answer to the question as to whether cold zonal can still deliver has been answered today. Nick was bang on in that he could tell that everything would gradually get milder in this setup as we drew closer. What we now have is a 24 hour window of opportunity for highground snow.

As a member who's lived through the early 80's and remember similar setups that have delivered the difference is this.

Back then we would have a cold showery flow for about a week which got colder and colder as embedded troughs passed through and the wind usually backed from west to northwest as the week went on.

This setup is not showing here - a big disappointment but not a surprise :)

It is delivering - in spades - in Glasgow right now! Snow settling on cars already. Lamp post watching ahoy! Happy days. :)

Yep snowing here after a couple of hours of rain/sleet. Hopefully it will last long enough to lie. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to last and if it is to intensify or fizzle out? Sorry haven't had time to look :)

Clear spells and frosty last night, also it was foggy when I looked out at 0500, but gone by 0800.

A bright start but soon cloudy. A little rain and drizzle mid to late afternoon did not come to much, and it has been mostly dry this evening. Much of the day felt rather raw in the fresh SSE wind, but it has turned mild this evening.

Min: : -1.3c @ 2300 yesterday

Max: 8.1c @ 2230.

Rain yesterday: Trace.

Rain since 0900: 1mm.

Currently: Cloudy, mild and mostly dry.

Temp: 7.9c.

Pressure: 1006 mbar, steady.
