Interesting. Can't wait for the vids.

Shame you don't live near me. I can put VHS to DVD. Then it's a simple matter of ripping the DVD to your pc, converting them to AVI and uploading them to Youtube.

I lived in West Cumbria at the time, where my parents still live, when I was up there for xmas I dug out the pictures of the week that followed that forecast and half inched them. Only problem is trying to find a scanner to put them on, I will try to do so tomorrow, some of them are epic, 52cm....pah!

Pictures can be found here http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=52824

That is Mr.Macaskill on the Bitter,Snowy Easterly of February 1991,check out those windchill temps as well.

1991 - Now that was just fantastic - only beaten by 1987 in my time here.

I have to say what a forecast from Mr McC - my all time favourite.

A great and totally individual presentation - trying to keep a serious face whilst really being very excited about what was going to happen! I think only Rob M or John Hammond could attempt that today.

January 1987 was probably my best recent memory of really severe wintry weather here in SE England

We had several days of Easterlies where the temperature didn't rise above -3c and at night lows of -10c

Also a level 14" of powdery snow with drifts in exposed area's several feet deep, absolutely fantastic!

I've still got the BBC farmers forecast on video with John Ketley when he starts the forecast with "the only bright thing about this forecast is my tie" I only wish I knew how to get it uploaded onto You Tube?

Hi Snowblizzard,

I managed to find this on that Cold spell

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=srOC7pg9UAU

That`s the only vid i could find.

I guess you have the same problem as Steve M with your film of 1987 with it recorded on Video?

Yes that was probably the coldest week here since those winter months of 62/63.

If i remember correctly some -15c upper air temps reached the SE for a while.

Yes, that's correct and a small trough of low pressure ran accross from the low countries, combined with snow streamers off the Thames estuary which resulted in a major dumping. It just kept snowing, snowing & snowing, every time you looked out of the window the depth of the powdery stuff had increased by several inches!

However, it was awful when it ended though, it took several days to thaw, deep slush everywhere and dense fog as the milder air pushed in over the snow fields & cold ground, what a mess that was!

With this unprecedented strato warming occurring i would say all bets are off.

Talking about all the snow you got in 87, i live in Hertfordshire and we received about an inch of snow from the showers and then 4 inches from the more general snow on the Wednesday.

Bitterly cold mind with max temps on the monday of -7.8c recorded at the university or hertfordshire.
