Today Vizzy2004 and I met for a walk up Ingleborough, 724m and the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales. The snow line was around 400m but above this there was masses of snow, blowing and drifting on the summit plateau. On top it was difficult to get an exact measurement due to the drifting but there was between 20cm and 80cm of snow, with drifts up to over 1m. The walk began at Chapel-le-Dale.

A view from the valley over to Whernside, 737m:

Cracking pictures mate. I was up there back in Jan during the cold spell, no snow but frost galore!

Great stuff. Used to drive that road between Ingleton and Hawes alot back and forth from Lancaster University in all seasons and weather. The one and only time I walked up Ingleborough from Clapham was in thick mist and couldn't see a thing!

We went on that road actually, parked in Chapel-le-Dale and walked up from there.

Thanks for sharing the great photos of ingleborough, it's amazing how the altitude creates a different world to the valley below.

Here's one without the Snow.

How lucky we are to have such scenery on our doorstep.

Cheers,
