Not good. Ive been up Buchaille Etive Mor many moons ago. I was also lucky enough to walk away from being avalanched 600ft down Wolf Craig back in 79. Not something I'd care to repeat and I consider myself very fortunate. Unlike these poor souls.

The Scottish mountains are a dangerous place to be any time of year, but the risk of an avalanches is always there when there is is snow on the mountains. A terrifying experience I should imagine. So sorry for these poor people caught up in it.

Looks like being another cold night. A real white thick frost this morning which has not cleared totally today.

The gritters are out again, too late for one of my neighbours who has just slipped and broken his wrist on the icy roads!!

I have been following this on UK Climbing, it appears to have occurred at Coire na Tulaich on the Buchaille. Two seperate parties involving nine people. My thoughts are with the friends, families and rescuers of all those involved. Apparently Buchaille is absolutely buried in deep powder snow with many of the features of the north face obscured.

A fine day, pleasant for walking, after a frosty start. Starting to cloud over now so the temperature's not dropping as fast as it did last night. Currently 3.8, maximum 6.9, last night's minimum -0.8.

What was supposed to be a dry day provided quite a heavy shower in mid-afternoon after a hazily sunny day until that time. Maximum was 7.3c.

The sky had cleared earlier this evening but it's cloudy again now with the temperature 3.8c.

May be of interest to those following this tragic story

Glencoe Avalanche

3 mountaineers were caught in a slab avalanche today in Glencoe Scotland. They were swept 500 feet from a cornice scarp on the normal ascent route of the mountain Buachaille Etive. All 3 were in cardiac arrest. 2 were dug out by companions and one was located by spot probe.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue attended assisted by a Sea King helicopter from RNAS Gannet. The 3 victims were transfered to Belford Hospital Fort William where resuscitation attempts proved unsuccesful. This voie normal has seen many fatal avalanches over the years. Avalanche risk was category 4 with the danger enhanced by new snow and wind.

thicker cloud moved in on and off between 1-2:30pm, however it then turned clearer and dropped to 2.9c around 8pm.
