Your High Maximum Temperature This Month

Although in this location January has been particularly disappointing with regards to wintry weather (no falling or lying snow and just 4 air frosts). it has been very notable for a lack of any real mild weather.

So far this month the high maxima here is just 8.5C. This is actually the lowest in January in all my 27 years of records.

'lowest' maximum temperatures in January:

2009: 8.5C

2001: 8.9C

1985: 9.3C

1987: 9.3C

1991: 10.5C

1996: 10.6C

1994: 10.7C

1986: 10.8C

2006: 10.9C

It also takes its place as the 3rd lowest maximum of any month in the last 27 years:

Feb 1983: 8.0C

Jan 2009: 8.5C

Mar 1996: 8.7C

Jan 2001: 8.9C

Dec 1995: 9.2C

Jan 1985: 9.3C

Jan 1987: 9.3C

Jan 1991: 10.5C

It has also been 39 days since we last had a double digit temperature (22nd Dec), something which has only occured in 5 of the last 71 days aswell (since 20th Nov). Regardless of snow and frost amounts, it has been a rather notable period of cool or cold temperatures for recent times.

Unfortunately nothing on 1995/96 though, from 30th November to 13th April only 6 out of 136 days reached double digits.

I've had 2 double figure maximums this month with the highest being 10.4c on 16 January. By comparison, January 2006 had only one double figure maximum whereas 2008 was mostly double figure maximums!

For my location ,today has be the mildest day of the month. This morning the temp was at its max at 11.0c

8.2c here, the lowest max' temp' in January since 1987 which also recorded 8.2c. The last Jan' to have a lower monthly max' was 1979 which had 6.1c.

2001 was close though with a max' of 8.4c.

9.7c as the absolute maximum (lowest -8.4c) that is an exceptionally low max and is interesting because the previous lowest for Jan was in 2006 at 10.9c. Compare the absolute highest Jan maximum to previous years;

Easily the lowest.

10.9C here today has been the highest max, lowest max was -0.2C on the 6th. We've had a low of -7.1C on the 7th.
