Well, just to start this one off.

Would like to add S.Yorks and Humberside to this to make the area worthwhile?

Let me know if anyone wants me to expand this to a greater area.

im not overly confident this area has been predicted 2-5cms on so many occasions yet ive nt seen more than 2mm for a long while. metoffice saying 5-10 this time round would be nice if they underestimated things for a change.

Oooh, if only! You should tell the Met Office - light snow showers forecast Sunday night across the East Midlands region, no doubt similar for our friends slightly further north.

Their Monday to Wednesday forecast:

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Cold, further snow at times giving heavy falls in places, especially over hills. Snow may turn to rain or sleet at times at lower levels and on the coast.

Would be nice! I'm sure there are many round here that could do with a good fall! Just from this winter, everywhere else has had a fall, though Nottingham always seems to miss it, guess the same for the other cities, Leicester, Derby, Hull. I hear Sheffield may have had some though... ;)

Same here, not much snow this year apart from a few dusting's, can't complain though considering some have had none. Maybe this time i will have enough for a snowball fight ;)

Not seen much snow here this winter appart from about 3 dustings. Also just over 1cm

which lasted a few days. Last easter sunday was awesome though with about 8cm ;)

I don't think there's been a flake in the city of Nottingham! ;) There has been in the Peak District and other outlying areas, but not here.

You'll be one of the first in the firing line as this comes in!

Would be lovely, wouldn't it? Most parts of the country seem to be desperate for just that something special this time! ;)

No lying snow here so far this winter, so hoping that we can at least get 1 day of snowcover at 0900 from this spell.

Hello there reef, I'd be very interested to know how things go in Hull, due to it being so near the coast. Would be nice to know if you get anything laying, be sure to let us all know how the snow progresses! :)

Yes, that mild sector is a thorn in the side. :) Though I'm quite hopeful that the uppers shouldn't get higher than -3 so that the sleet that may fall maybe more of a snow mix, and any potential cover could remain. :)

Yes, I know how you feel. Remember the event before Christmas (the snow to rain one)? The national forecast seemed convinced most places north of the Wash might see snow, but it was just rain here. The East Mids local forecast (with good old Des Coleman!) was consistent in forecasting rain then. I might be more inclined to follow them!

Ah, you're favoured! :) Hopefully the very slight altitude (about 150m is that?) may give you the edge in the mild sector! Fingers crossed!

Just edited your Topic Title to Include East Yorks as well

Cheers

Paul S

Many thanks .. most of us celebrated the demise of

'Humberside' back in 1996.

I've had two falls and settlings of snow so far this winter.

Today it's blue sky and 4º C but nithering in the strong wind now.

Looking forward to seeing what the next few days deliver.

Cheers,

BL. :)

Do forgive me if the reference to Humberside has offended, I was trying to go with a general term (along with the local police force) that would cover the NE Lincs and Hull area! :)

Hope you get a decent fall up in Beverley! :o

That's ok Butler Son, just trying to keep that horrible name

out of use these days. ;)

Yes, I'm supposing we'll get a decent innings with this snow.

Hope we all do !

Cheers,

BL. :)

Right - casting the snow for our area.

GFS 06z: Predicting the -5 air to enter the region at about 9am tomorrow, with precipitation first coming into the UK in E Yorks.

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/27/ukprec.png

-10 air is in evidence 3 hours later, with heavier precipitation into Grimsby and Hull.

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/30/ukprec.png

Fairly decent precipitation, almost certainly of snow, certainly heavier than other areas, should ensue for a few hours hence.

Now the mild sector shows its hand at T+60 - Monday 6pm, introducing possible sleet into East Lincs:

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png

Precipitation is still of a decent intensity...

This then spreads across the region, introducing a possible snow/rain mix.

However, the milder upper air is always about -2 or -3, so shouldn't be too rainy I would hope. I am yet to check the thicknesses, though these are also marginal at this time.

Colder air reintroduced across the region at T+75 (Tues 9am), accompanied by drier conditions:

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png

http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/75/ukprec.png

That's just using the GFS 6z - I may do a more comprehensive look through when all the 12zs are out with more models. If someone with more knowledge than I wants to try a hand, then they're welcome! Let's see if it pans out like this!

Update according to 12z GFS - milder conditions entering Lincs in the mild sector with the 0C isotherm intruding, making precipitation more likely to be rain. Hope this isn't followed on the Euros or other future runs.

I like it! Should have it slightly further south, get in all of Notts, Lincs, Leics, Northants and Derby.
