We are under the influence of slightly warmer air here now, the temperature is above freezing with a slight thaw in progress. I am waiting for the skies to clear. so at least we can get a slight frost to delay the slush developing then hopefully during the rest of the day it should be quite bright.

Morning folks

Icy morning in SE London with a few snow flurries in the air, very slippery under foot, took the sensible route to the station, i.e. I walked in the road, its much safer than the foot path at the moment.

It was still Icy in the city of London too, I expected the thaw to have already started, but the foot paths are frozen solid. no wind to speak of at either so it should be a crisp winters day with a thaw setting in around the middle of the day.

Cheers

FC

The most dangerous cycle ride I've ever taken - sums up this morning!

I awoke to the sound of cars crunching the now solid snow remains. The light rain last night did a good job at slightly melting it until the skies cleared and it froze solid.

-1.3c when I left the house. Gave up trying to ride down the big hills near my house - had to walk with the bike. Got a few brief stints riding extremely slowly - seeing various people fall over as I went.

Traffic is light as many schools (surprise, surprise) are closed.

A mixture of sheet ice (puddles) and big icy lumps awaits anyone who steps out this morning!

My gears froze up too which is most unusual - I guess I don't normally ride/push bike slowly without changing gears for long periods in cold weather.

Stay safe out there...

After a slow thaw last night, the temperature fell to –3.3c under clearing skies, and as low as –5.0c on the snow, and with a moderate to fresh easterly wind, a penetrating moderate to severe frost, so very icy indeed this morning. Though a few centimeters of snow melted away in the short thaw, there is still a good cover of around 3.5cm of snow left.

Intermittent moderate snow overnight has left a cover of 5.5cm, and with a fresh NE wind, a severe penetrating frost, with an air minimum of –2.5c and –6.6c on the snow. At observation, heavy blowing snow with drifting in a gusting NE wind. The day continued with heavy snow at times, though with a much lighter wind. The snow cover ranged from 13 to 18cm by 19:00hrs. The evening saw the snow petering out with a slow thaw following. Top temperature 0.7c, maximum wind gust 22mph, NE.

Cloudy, outbreaks of heavy snow, drifting. Snow heavier than last night. Up to 5 inches here, locally 6 inches where drifts are.

Still only -2C

Temps rising very slowly even in sunshine still snow cover in my garden which should stay in the shade for days before more on thursday night

I read somewhere else this is seasonal weather but it's not, the average max for Feb is 7C/average min 1C and the week looks cold all week in the midlands its not just for northerners at all.

We have light snow showers here !

Wasnt expecting that so early in the day

Assume the odd shower coming from down south

Too early in the season to have convective showers I guess, thats late march April ??

With cloud cover and this Im more optimistic snow will stay around all day

0c here at present
