Very cold here; near still air, clear skies, and a close to ground inversion very evident. Classic stuff above an extensive snow field.

Precipitation action looks further west than originally expected, and perhaps moving on a tad faster. Looking at euro radar most of what we're likely to get looks like it's now showing on the UK radar. Main action for snow may well be, as the UKMO called earlier tonight, the hills of Worcestershire, the NW Cotswolds, and the uplands of Derbyshire. Very marginal temps further SE, but at present N of London and E of the M1 snow looking slightly more likely than earlier forecasts suggested. Northerly extent will be interesting to see.

    Morning Folks

The thaw is well under way in SE London, I do not think too much rain fell last night as there is still snow covering the cars in my area. No snow left in central London, well not around Holborn anyway.

I'm glad some of you got a decent pasting last night, enjoy.....

    Cheers

    FC

Just stopped snowing leaving a good five inches of deep, powdery snow. heaviest snow for 18 years for this area.

Very surprising given all the forecasts last night. I am guessing everything stayed further south than expected?

    Could anyone enlighten me?

Snow began as I got up about 15 mins ago. Looking at the radar it could be snowing for some time. Good sized flakes settling easily on the cold ground and snow left from yesterdays fall - temps dropped from 0.7 to around 0.3 with the snow onset.

Pressure 993mb, DP 0. Wind 13mph from the north.

Now THIS is proper snow! Over 2 inches of the stuff and still falling heavily. Gave up trying to cycle to work as even the main roads are slippery and covered in slush. Not seen snow like this in a long long time - at least not around the warmth of Nottingham anyway. Puts Monday's flurry in perspective that's for sure!

No sign of it turning back to rain yet - hopefully it'll stop before that happens or it'll be a nightmare later on.

Woke up to more snow :) , not snowing now but praying if any more pp comes through this area then it stays as snow, not rain. Without a shadow of a doubt, this has been the best winter in the twelve years I've been down here; all that hoare frost in the New Year and now four days of snowfall :D
