how are things shaping up this year for storm chasing?

any early indications? are their any signs that it will be a good year for chasing?

I know with hurricanes they get predictions quite early I presume its a lot harder to predict with tornadoes.

last year started very early any signs it will this year?

It looks to be starting early this year with a moderate risk out for a large area today. :( I'll put in my thoughts later when I have a bit more time, but a tornado outbreak is quite possible this afternoon if things fall together nicely.

I wonder if we should revive a virtual chase thread. Wouldn't be surprised to see High Risk Today and at least Mod tomorrow given the brief look I had this morning.

In terms of 2009, I don't think it'll be quite as extreme as last year, we have a decaying La Nina signal which slowly will drift to neutral so I suspect the first half of the season will be better then the second half, though I still suspect we will see an above average season in regards to tornadoes. I think April-mid May will possibly be pretty big easing off as time goes along, though to some extent thats normal anyway.

Here's an interesting link predicting a good season...

Just hope it all doesn't happen too early and die off by late May. Still whatever happens i'm sure i'll see some impressive weather compared with what we get in the North East
