I talk to my mum and dad only because one day they will die, and they might leave me the house if I'm nice enough to them.

This is the view this afternoon from the top of their garden (a panorama of 8 individual photos).

Nice pic, but if I were your Mum or Dad I wouldn't be very pleased about the way you talk about them behind their backs!

I have a cunning plan; infiltrate your mum and dad's world, be exceptionally nice to them and get you cut out of their will.

On the left, it's Murton Pike (594m). The middle one is Mell Fell (about 500m but no peak as such) and then, on the right, Roman Fell (594m again).

Thank you. I'll take a wander over them next time I'm up.

You'll have them all to yourself. No one visits here; they all go to the Lakes, yet this part of Cumbria is stunning too.

Murton Pike's easy to get up as there's an army track right up to within a couple of hundred foot climb of the summit (so the generals can go shooting) and from there you can get onto Murton Fell behind and wander over to the other two fells. Another nice way would be to wander of Scordale from the village of Hilton and then scramble up at the end.

Useless lumps?

There are 9 pubs in Appleby, but if you want a nice traditional local, head for Dufton and The Stag Inn. Dufton's on the Pennine Way and offers routes onto the fells above Murton Pike via Dufton Pike or High Cup Nick. That's really about it...bit sparsely populated up there.

I went for a walk yesterday and today around the village and considering it hasn't snowed for a week, it's hung about pretty well really.
