-5 and falling as dawn breaks here. Some fresh snow over the frozen partially melted falls from Thur & Fri.

DP -7, feels like -11 in the 14mph wind from the west, pressure a steady 998mb. Mostly clear skies, altho' the clouds are increasing as the beginnings of the front from the west approaches.

    Minimum temperature –4.2°C

    Minimum temperature on snow –8.4°C

    Yesterday, 06 February 2009

It has been a very cold night with a severe frost; the minimum air temperature fell to –6.2c, and as low as –9.4c on the snow cover. At observation, very cold, clear and sunny, but still frosty and icy, and still with 5cm of snow cover. The day continued mostly sunny and the temperature responded by rising to a maximum of 4.2c, being the highest of the month so far. More cloudy conditions spread in to the area by late afternoon and early evening, thus preventing an early evening frost.

BBC forecast min -5C for central London last night, I'm 25 miles South of London and temp here didn't drop below +0.5C overnight, I think yesterdays forecast for an extremely cold night was way off the mark!

I guess cloud cover kept the temperature from dropping any lower than -2.3c.

It's a cloudy morning with hazy sunny spells and still full snow cover of several inches on all surfaces except roads and rooves that were exposed to the sun yesterday.

Temperature at the moment is rising at 1.5c with humidity at 85%.

Cloud persisted until around 2300 yesterday evening so the air temperature fell only to a modest -3.5c. The min' over the snow surface however was remarkably low, once the cloud cleared the ground temperature fell like a stone and with 13cm of powdery snow lying there was a grass ( snow ) min of -12.0c.

Currently cloudy with 7 oktas altostratus and a temp' of -1.8c.

Very grey and boring here at the moment , temp currently at -0.1c rising steadily after a min of -5.5c last night..hopefully the snow is on it's way , but looking at the radar(METO) the band of rain/sleet/snow seems to be fragmenting ,i just hope there is a bigger band just off the radar to the west of Eire

so far its dry and frosty with hazy sunshine due to the cirrus-type cloud that is rapidly encroaching and thickening ahead of the approaching frontal system.
