5cm of fresh snow fell last night with some drifting after 2100 as the wind picked up. The mean level depth reached 19cm shortly before midnight but by the 0900 observation had settled back to a mean of 18.2cm with the temperature rising a few tenths above freezing once the snow had stopped.

Currently sunny with a slow thaw and it doesn't look as though there'll be any more significant snow in the near future; having said that GFS show potential for Saturday as a front moves in slowly from the west, completely at odds with the fax' charts which show an area of high pressure on top of the country.

Will anything come from the feature running down the country later tonight, progged around 4-9am? GFS is having none of it, maybe a little down western sides, BBC has a little activity (Meto model). Ecmwf has the feature running down the east coast, just to confuse things :) . Obviously not a lot of precipitation is with this feature but when you have nothing snow wise it is 'something' :) . See how this one pans out later tonight!

We might get a bit of drizzle in the early hours but it's not worth staying up for :):)

Quite a lot of damage in the sun today as the wintry mix last night turned it slushy, Were its deep though there is still a good covering. Everywhere in shade is doing ok with only a small thaw today. Still about 6cm on the grass now. Expecting a freeze tonight so should be fun in the morning. I can't wait for it to go now. Its annoying me. Especially as i just fell over the the road out side were its solid ice!

Does anyone live in East Midlands, Lincs And S & E Yorkshire, seems to be rather deserted in here compared to the other regional thread's :D Still got a quite bit of snow around. Its going slowly unfortunately. Should be gone by the weekend hopefully. If it lasts till Sunday (which it might in the shade depending how cold it is) then we would have two weeks of laying snow! Had some sleet today for quite a while

Just heard from my other half it is indeed snowing. Typical that Im at work on a night shift in a room with no windows so cant see it! I might have to have a trip outside and see it when that shower hits in a bit.

That part of heavier precipitation is heading right for me here at work.

Just had a wander out and it is indeed snowing moderately. Very industrial here (massive urban heat island effect) so its almost a guarantee its snowing at home aswell.

If it keeps on it could be an interesting drive back in the morning!

A thin covering of snow here now. Again nothing measurable but a suprise indeed!

You can always count on northerlies to deliver something here. Shame they're so rare in winter months recently.

My Forecast for today/tonight

After a bright crisp start in many areas, cloud will start thickening from the North. A band of snow accross the central belt of Scotland, and Northern England will continue to push south, the heaviest of the precipitation will stay North accross central scotland pushing into the newcastle area. Any areas north of i would say the wash will see complete snow falling. Tonight gets interesting, it finally looks like it's time for yorkshire to get the snow.

The band will intensify as it push's accross the region, falling as snow everywhere (even on the coast).. Some accumulations of upto 10cm is possible! Maybe more on the hills. Temps,Dew Points,Isotherm is fine. 850's go from -7 to -8 down to -5 to -3 as the main precipitation hits, but as we had seen the other night, this is not a problem. Dews and temps stay on the right side of marginal right upto 3am tommorrow morning. So lets just now wait for the snow!

Snow Depths

East yorkshire/Humberside: 5-10cm

North Yorkshire: 6-15cm

Other areas: 3-5cm

Frosty morning with a very light dusting of hail overnight, looks good today with the potential of finally a fair amount of snow for northern and eastern areas, can we manage more than the usual 3cm :(
