Have you seen any of the local forecasts for our area? I didn't realise we had a good chance

of snow so i haven't watched any :(

hello tomb raider legend and cal2

yes there is a very good chance of snow in our area today as a band of precipitation heads southwards.

forecast is for a covering by nightfall almost anywhere - even the coast has a chance

being inland and at a higher elevation you should fare well from this situation :(

Yeah but sadly the snow didn't last for too long each time :(

It shouldn't be too long before the ppn arrives :D

its becoming increasingly overcast here now - clouds are looking ever more threatening.

the leading edge of the front lloks more like rain or sleet to me on the radar, but the greens and yellows are probably the snow.

yeah, i will do later, but, unless things change as the band moves south then that radar image you posted clearly shows light to moderate snowfall.

time will tell of course. :wallbash:;)

I agree it will keep pepping up, expect the heaviest of snowfall to hit around 2:50PM - 3:40PM onwards.

Temps will rise 0.5c during the light precip, once the moderate precip hits you will see the temp drop down to around 1.3c to many areas, with around 0c possible too. Looking at the isotherm and the dew points, we have nothing to worry about right until 3am tomorrow morning... Dews stay at 0c until 12am-3am tomoz morning, with them staying below 0 up until 8pm tonight

yep, looks good to me, but what about temps at the 500hpa and 850hpa levels?

is the -5c isotherm over or near us?

Cheers for that. according to weatheronline the temp at 10:20 was only 1c here so it's looking good :wallbash:

It looks fine from where im standing.

Wind direction is crucial and its looking good indeedie. As we loose the feed off the north sea.

thanks very much for posting those, and, providing we lose the on-shore wind and therefore the effects caused by SST's etc, then we have a very good chance.

snowball fight anyone? :wallbash:

We got nothing from that band of 'moderate' snowfall that passed over us according to the NW and the Meto radar. Not a flake or a flurry.

Beats me how the radar can show such a strong echo and there's nothing to see for it. :cc_confused:

I was about to say the same thing, happened last night the radar showed a shower over me with a dark echo, it wasnt until it passed over me 25 mins later on the radar until i actually got it! Some kind of anaprop is possible, which is not good. Temp dropping now so precip very close.

Snowing heavy here, Swinton, South yorkshire, Im sure this wasn't forecasted!

that looks like its from that narrow band of precipitation showing on the radar from west of the humber down towards birmingham.

if my memory is correct swinton is near mexborough and at a fair height above sea level too.
