I'd still give birmingham a chance, on the 5pm radar it looked like brum was out of it , on the 5.30 it has pepped up further west again imo. We have strong hgih pressure building in 1030 , was on 1028mb here at 2pm , unyet pressure has now dropped and ppn seems to me moving west. this is wierd. The ppn band is now stronger then it was early this morning in scotland.

do you think its really moving west slightly cause it looks like to me that it may be , im litteraly 20miles west of ot lol ! maybe it will pep up some more ! any comments welcome. thanks

Trouble is the GFS thinks it will be rain by then. Dreadful conditions likely on the roads and not much snow left by tomorrow am. A miserable outcome if that's the case.

I think there is a good chance, although the problem is the upper air temp at 850 meters is due to rise to around 0c in the west , it is already raining north of me and bbc news 24 have just said that rain is moving south. But the weather has defied all forecasts for today so you never know . My weather station is still dropping in temp so at the minute so far so good. Snow has slowed down here but radar says heavy band on its way.

Not seeing much westward movement to be honest. Still looks to be moving SEly on the radar. Some very heavy stuff towards Notts at the moment, fun for Leicestershire shortly.

Temp here is -0.1 with dew of -1! That is awesome for the time being, this WILL all be melted by tomorrow morning but i'm just delighted to see it for now. Temps rising to 6-7c tomorrow so my snowman that i made last week looks like he will be on the way out too  Still this is awesome to see at the minute. It's died down a bit now on the radar, it looked like intense snowfall was heading this way now it looks like it has calmed down a bit, gahh I wanted that really heavy PPN to come here aswell lol.

I wish there was a sticky FAQ For us beginners to understand what you mean by PPN and dew points. How do we find these on the map where is the map you guys are looking at. I know netweather has the pay for extra details section but it would be nice if someone on netweather could create a sticky faq for us.

It still might do , If you are following the metoffice radar you will notice they have turned the lights out on the 6pm radar, a darker spotty background if you look closely, hopefully the 6.30pm will switch them back on again. Tv forecasts are saying snow till 10pm for us. Must admit radar looks to me like were in the heavy band now but all I got is light snow grains.

Probably old news by now but the Met Office have now issued flash warnings for western parts of the East Mids region including Leicestershire and Northamptonshire which expires at 2300. Derbyshire escapes with just an advisory.

Hmmm on the N-W radar the heaviest PPN that was heading our way is fizzling a bit and I don't think you will like the 6:30pm Met-Office radar update much.

PPN is Precipitation.. What you see on the Met Office radar...

Dew point, well you can find that out if you have your own Weather station or by going onto www.xcweather.co.uk and it tells you current temperatures and dew points around the country. Ideally need dew point at 0c or lower for snow.

Well...a nice surprise to see snow again !

A cm or so has settled on all surfaces. Current temp is 0.2C with a dew point of -0.8C. Ideal.

That is bizzare, the band of snow really pepped up a lot to the North of me, was heading straight for me then just died away again, I was looking forward to that very heavy stuff aswell  I think I jinxed it cos I told my mum we would get some very heavy snow soon, then it just died away!

haha :)

I told you that the 6:30 radar wouldn't make good showing. I have the Net Weather radar and it's updated every 5 minutes so I saw what happened to that heavy stuff, it disintigrated into thin air.
